I was looking for a new winter bike to give my aero road bike a well earned rest from bad weather and dirty wet roads. So a new winter bike was required but I didn’t just want to be able to hit the roads but, also hop off the road and ride a few tracks and trails too, as well wanna get muddy at some point..!!
So I was looking at the mainstream brands for a gravel bike? Or a heavy winter bike with mudguards (great for commuting, but not a weekend thrash)...
Bumped in to an old pal on a Ribble CGR in blue and white, he gave it a glowing review...asked another pal who’s mad on bikes, if you were gonna get a gravel bike what would you go for.. he sent me a link to the Ribble CGR.. coincidence or just two pals who know their bikes?!?!!
I’ve already got a 29er for knocking about on so couldn’t really differentiate between gravel and 29er.. All I did know that from the 7 days I had spent admiring the bikes on Ribble’s website that I wanted one from their stable...
The CX seemed to tick all the boxes, so I played around with the spec tool and looked at bespoke paint jobs but, my wife said.. just go for the Red it looks really smart... hate today she is right..
My bike arrived a month early, I was prepared for a 15 January delivery date because of Covid and the Christmas holidays.. but to my surprise my new bike arrived a month early!! Great service.
Took me about and hour to unpack her and a set the bars, saddle fit my pedals and just do a sanity check with my torque wrench just to make sure nothing had moved in transit..
So I’ve just run her out on her first ride.. 35miles on and off road... bike feels fantastic, responsive and stiff. I’m 6’1” and went for a large, fits perfect. The mix of Level components and 105 is great value and feels a lot more than the price tag..!!
Enough to say I love it, love it love it.. So glad I chose Ribble, would recommend to anyone novice or pro..!
Great service, great value, great bikes
